Beyonce and Kamala Harris Rally Texans on Abortion Rights

Beyonce, the Queen Bey, took the stage in Houston, Texas, alongside Kamala Harris, urging the packed stadium to “sing a new song” and demanding America elect a new president – Kamala Harris. The crowd, filled with men and women, including her mother Tina Knowles and former Destiny’s Child bandmate Kelly Rowland, was in full solidarity. Beyonce, unapologetically, addressed the crowd, stating she was not there as a celebrity or politician but as a mother. She spoke about her children witnessing the sacrifices made by women and the importance of reimagining leadership.

Ms. Harris, the Democratic Presidential Nominee, took the stage to thunderous applause, highlighting the devastating effects of Donald Trump’s policies on women’s rights. She spoke about the Supreme Court justices Trump appointed, which erased half a century of progress by overturning Roe v Wade, leading to a healthcare crisis. Harris emphasized that no one is protected from Trump’s abortion bans, not even those living in states where voters or legislators have protected reproductive rights. She warned that a national ban would outlaw abortion in every single state.

Ms. Harris listed the consequences of these bans, including women having fewer options and medical students choosing not to specialize in women’s health. Her campaign claimed this was her largest rally to date, with the crowd waiting in line for hours, dressed in flashing red, white, and blue LED bracelets. The event featured stories of women who nearly died from pregnancy complications due to lack of proper medical care, including those who never intended to end their pregnancies.

In the midst of a dead-heat presidential election, Harris is counting on abortion rights as a major driver for voters, particularly Republican women who are growing increasingly disillusioned with Trump’s inconsistent stance on the issue. Trump’s record on reproductive rights has become a major vulnerability for Republicans, and his inability to deliver a clear message on the topic has only added to his woes.
