Keanu Reeves, the Hollywood actor known for his iconic roles in films like The Matrix and Speed, made his professional racing car debut on Saturday at the renowned Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Although it was a slight misstep, Reeves spun into the grass at the exit of turn nine, well over halfway through the 45-minute race. Fortunately, he re-entered the track without incident, signaling that he was uninjured. The 60-year-old actor qualified 31st out of the 35 cars, but managed to work his way up to as high as 21st before finishing 25th in the event.
Reeves is competing in the Toyota GR Cup, a Toyota spec-racing series that serves as a support series for the Indy 8 Hour sports car event. He will have another opportunity to test his skills on Sunday, when he takes part in the second race of the weekend. The actor is driving the No 92 BRZRKR car, which is dedicated to promoting his newly released graphic novel, The Book Of Elsewhere.
This is not Reeves’ first foray into the world of racing. In 2009, he won the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach celebrity race, showcasing his competitive spirit and ability to navigate the track. Despite the spin, Reeves demonstrated his determination and skill, successfully avoiding a first-lap crash at turn 14.
Reeves’ racing debut has captured the attention of fans and fellow drivers alike, and it will be interesting to see how he performs in his second race on Sunday. In the meantime, the actor will be taking a break from the track to attend a special screening of Speed, the 1994 film that co-starred Sandra Bullock, on Tuesday in Los Angeles. The event marks the 30th anniversary of the film, which cemented Reeves’ status as a Hollywood leading man.
