India’s drone technology industry is experiencing rapid growth, with the Remote Pilot Training Organization (RPTO) playing a crucial role in shaping the future of this sector. The RPTO, a high-tech boot camp, offers comprehensive training to aspiring pilots, covering the basics of drone operation, safety procedures, and complex movements. Upon completion, students receive the coveted Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC), enabling them to fly drones commercially. The RPTO’s primary objective is to provide a skilled workforce, enabling India to unlock the true potential of drone technology.

Drone technology has revolutionized various industries, including agriculture, disaster relief, and infrastructure checks, and India is at the forefront of this revolution. The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) is a leading player in the drone technology terrain, having launched India’s largest RPTO in collaboration with EduRade. This state-of-the-art facility has the capacity to operate nine medium-class drones simultaneously, positioning it as a central hub for advancing drone technology and training in India.

Dr. Parameswar Krishnan Iyer, of IIT Guwahati, emphasized the goal of propelling drone technology in India, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a global drone hub by 2030. The RPTO also plays a key role in the “Namo Drone Didi” program, empowering women from Self Help Groups (SHGs) to use drones in agriculture. This program not only boosts agricultural productivity but also empowers these women economically by providing them with the skills and knowledge to use drones in their daily work.

IIT Guwahati’s RPTO has a special focus on providing high-quality drone training to the youth in North East India, a region often facing educational and infrastructural hurdles. Graduates of the drone pilot training program have a wide range of career options across various sectors, including agriculture, infrastructure, media, environmental conservation, public safety, and more. The institute also plans to offer advanced programs and certifications in drone technology, further enhancing career prospects for its students.

Furthermore, IIT Guwahati is also making strides in modernizing defense operations with tailored training programs for defense personnel. With the rise of drone technology, the institute is well-positioned to play a crucial role in the country’s growth and development. As India continues to soar to new heights in drones, it is clear that the sound of innovation taking flight is only going to get louder.
