Rudy Giuliani, former NYC mayor and Trump advisor, was disbarred by a Manhattan appeals court for repeatedly making false statements about the 2020 election results, which led to the suspension and now revocation of his law license.
“Mr. Giuliani is obviously disappointed in the decision and we are weighing our appellate options,” Barry Kamins, Giuliani’s representative said in a statement.
The court ruled that Rudy Giuliani made demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers, and the public in his role as Trump’s lawyer, leading to disciplinary charges and ultimately his disbarment.
“These false statements were made to improperly bolster respondent’s narrative that due to widespread voter fraud, victory in the 2020 United States presidential election was stolen from his client,” the court said, referring to Trump.
Tuesday’s ruling marks the latest setback in Rudy Giuliani’s ongoing legal and financial troubles. In May, he pleaded not guilty to nine felony charges related to an alleged “fake elector” scheme in Arizona aimed at falsely declaring Trump the 2020 election winner.
Giuliani was also charged alongside 17 others in connection with this incident. Last year, he filed for bankruptcy after losing a $148 million defamation lawsuit linked to false statements made following Trump’s presidency bid.
