The Indian cricket team has claimed its first ICC event win in 11 years, and the team is now set to begin a new chapter with a five-match T20I series in Zimbabwe. The series, scheduled to start on July 6, will feature a fresh-looking squad led by Shubman Gill, who took over as captain following the retirement of several key players including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja. The team will be keen to build on its World Cup victory and establish itself as a dominant force in international cricket.

The squad selection for the Zimbabwe tour has seen several changes, with Sai Sudharsan, Jitesh Sharma, and Harshit Rana replacing Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal for the first two T20Is. The absence of Samson, Dube, and Jaiswal, who were part of the Indian team that lifted the T20 World Cup, is due to their delayed return from Barbados, where they were stranded along with other team members due to a hurricane. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that they will travel to India with the rest of the team and then depart for Harare for the remaining three T20Is.

As the Indian team begins this new chapter, it will face a different set of challenges and opponents. The Zimbabwe series will provide an opportunity for the team to test its skills against a varied and unpredictable team. The Indian team will be expected to showcase its strength and adaptability, and Gill will be under pressure to lead the team to success.

The Indian squad has a mix of youth and experience, with several players looking to make their mark in international cricket. Sudharsan, Sharma, and Rana will be eager to prove themselves, while experienced players like Gill, Jitesh Sharma, and Harshit Rana will provide guidance and stability. The team’s performance in the Zimbabwe series will set the tone for its future international assignments, and fans will be eagerly watching to see how the team responds to the challenges ahead.

With the World Cup victory fresh in their minds, the Indian team is well-placed to start this new chapter on a positive note.
