Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid tribute to Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his death anniversary, remembering his life dedicated to the unity and integrity of India. Addressing a ceremony, Adityanath recalled Mookerjee’s sacrifice in 1953 for “one country, one head of state, one constitution and one flag”. He said that Mookerjee had left his post as a central government minister to launch a movement to remove Article 370 from Kashmir, which he believed undermined the national integrity. Adityanath credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for abolishing Article 370, saying it was a fulfillment of the BJP’s promise to uphold national unity.
Adityanath remembered Mookerjee as a great patriot, educationist, and guide who dedicated his life to the cause of India’s unity and integrity. He emphasized that Mookerjee’s sacrifice was an inspiration to the people of the country. The UP cabinet ministers, including Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak and Water Power Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, and other prominent leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also paid floral tributes to Mookerjee’s statue.
In a post on social media, Adityanath wrote, “Humble tribute to the great patriot, founder president of Bharatiya Jana Sangh, excellent educationist, guide of nationalists, revered Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his martyrdom day! His entire life and sacrifice, dedicated to the unity and integrity of India, is a great inspiration for the people of the country.”
