Chelsea’s Romeo Lavia has shared his feelings of “frustration” after being ruled out for the remainder of the season due to yet another injury setback.

Despite his high-profile move, Lavia has seen minimal action for the Blues, featuring in only one match. Unfortunately, during that same game against Crystal Palace, he suffered a thigh injury, which has sidelined him once again.

Earlier, his debut was postponed until December due to muscle and ankle injuries, and now, a fresh setback during his recovery process has ended his season prematurely.

Taking to Instagram to address Chelsea fans, Lavia expressed his disappointment, stating: “Hi Chelsea family. As you may know, and despite my countless efforts, I will be missing the remainder of the season.

This has been a frustrating season for me, not being able to help my teammates. I love this squad, this badge and being on the pitch more than anything. Trust that I have given my all every day to get back.

Thank you for the love, support and critics because they all affect me positively and keep me going. I can’t wait to give it back and share many special moments together. See you soon.”

Lavia had hoped to return to training in March, which could have potentially paved the way for his involvement with Belgium at the Euros. However, this possibility has now been dashed.

Confirming his injury in an official statement, the club noted: “Midfielder Romeo Lavia is to unfortunately miss the remainder of our 2023-24 campaign following a setback in his recovery.

Recent medical assessments have confirmed that Lavia, who sustained a significant thigh injury against Crystal Palace back in December, will not feature again this season.”

Lavia’s absence is a significant setback for Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea. With the team currently outside the Premier League’s top 10, his return would have been a boost. The Blues will resume their campaign against Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.
