Paris Saint-Germain is keen to circumvent another Kylian Mbappe-esque transfer saga, with Achraf Hakimi reportedly engaged in discussions over a new contract.
As PSG star Mbappe appears poised to join Real Madrid this summer, his teammate Hakimi has also been linked with a move to Los Blancos.
However, according to French publication Le Parisien, the Ligue 1 giants have “started discussions” with the right-back regarding extending his current contract beyond 2026.
The report indicates that unlike Mbappe, the 25-year-old Moroccan has not expressed any desire to leave the Parisian club.
With Mbappe on the brink of departure, PSG may be entering a new era. Following the presence of footballing icons like Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Neymar in their attack in recent years, it’s increasingly likely that none of them will remain at the club by the season’s end.
Thus, retaining key players such as Hakimi will be crucial for PSG to avoid regression.
Hakimi initiated his career at Real Madrid before embarking on a two-year loan spell at Borussia Dortmund from 2018 to 2020.
After struggling for playing time at Madrid, he joined Inter Milan in 2020 before signing for PSG the following year.
While discussions regarding a new contract or a potential transfer are expected to linger over the coming weeks and months, Hakimi’s table-topping PSG will face Montpellier in their final Ligue 1 match on Sunday night before the March international break.
