PSV Eindhoven want to retain Sergiño Dest beyond his current loan period and are planning to approach Barcelona with their own offer rather than triggering his release clause.
The Dutch club is extremely pleased with the versatile fullback, who has impressed across all competitions, contributing one goal and six assists.
PSV’s strategy involves making a bid for Dest that is below his current release clause of €10m (£9m/$11m).
Barcelona might be tempted by this offer simply to offload him, especially considering he is now on his second loan spell since joining from Ajax in the 2020-21 season.
In addition to Dest, fellow U.S. internationals Malik Tillman and Ricardo Pepi are also making their mark at PSV.
Tillman has tallied six goals and seven assists across all competitions, while Pepi has excelled as a super substitute, scoring seven goals and providing two assists.
PSV have an upcoming Eredivisie match against Go Ahead Eagles this weekend, but their main focus will be on next Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund.
The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw, and now the two teams will face off in Dortmund to determine who advances to the next round.
