Best End of the World Movies

Looking for a fun and exciting way to spend your weekend? Check out our list of the best end-of-the-world movies! From post-apocalyptic tales to sci-fi thrillers, these films will have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. So whatever your plans for this weekend, make sure to add one or more of these movies to your list!

1. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

Mad Max: Fury Road is undeniably one of the best movies. It’s a post-apocalyptic action movie set in a world where society has collapsed, and the only law is the law of the jungle.

The film stars Tom Hardy as Max, a man who has been wandering the wasteland looking for any opportunity to take revenge on those who hurt him. He eventually joins forces with a group of survivors and sets out on a journey that will take them across the harsh desert landscape. Along the way, they fight off gangs, raid settlements, and face off against some of the most dangerous creatures imaginable.

If you’re looking for an intense and thrilling movie experience that will leave you spellbound, then Mad Max: Fury Road is definitely worth your attention! https://youtu.be/hEJnMQG9ev8

2. Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012)

In Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, retired couple Bruce and Marlene spend their last Day on Earth joking and singing around the house. The news channels are reporting various catastrophes, but they’re not particularly worried. That is until they hear about a nuclear strike in Russia that has devastated most of Europe. Bruce decides it’s time to go out and see what’s happening for himself.

As he wanders around the wreckage, he realizes that the end of the world isn’t as bad as we thought it would be. He even finds some friends – people who have been forced to live in shelters or makeshift camps because of all the destruction. Together, they start rebuilding civilization one block at a time.

Although this movie is fictional, it highlights some important themes that are often discussed regarding the end of the world. For example, many people overestimate how bad things will get before they happen. And even when things do get bad, there are usually more positive outcomes than we might expect. https://youtu.be/g0yt0OwvJAk

3. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)

In Invasion of the Body Snatchers, a group of aliens who look like humans comes to Earth in search of human specimens to use as food or to populate their planet. They disguise themselves as normal people and start infiltrating society’s ranks, eventually taking over entire towns and villages.

The movie is a suspenseful drama that revolves around the struggle of a small group of people (led by a charismatic doctor) who resist the alien takeover. The characters are forced to face difficult decisions, including whether or not to turn against their friends and family. Ultimately, they can escape and warn the rest of humanity about the danger posed by these aliens.

Though Invasion of the Body Snatchers may be more than 30 years old, its themes and messages are still relevant today. It is an excellent example of how science fiction can be used to explore important social issues and reflect our current concerns about society. https://youtu.be/q9VqUzdEQsk

4. Little Shop of Horrors: The Director’s Cut (1986)

The Little Shop of Horrors is a cult classic that tells the story of Seymour Krelborn, a small-time criminal who is forced to relocate to the tropical island of Norfolk after getting out of prison. There, he meets Audrey II, a talking plant that her previous owner has abandoned.

Seymour discovers that Audrey can provide people with powerful hallucinogenic drugs in exchange for food and water. However, he soon finds himself in over his head as he tries to make money from the drug while keeping everyone safe from harm. The film culminates in an epic battle between Seymour and Audrey as they fight for control of the island.

Though it was originally released in 1986, The Little Shop of Horrors: The Director’s Cut brings the full plot circle by featuring updated graphics and sound effects that give the movie an edge. It’s now considered one of the best endings to any movie ever made! https://youtu.be/QqFZuR6UzjA

5. The Mitchells vs. the Machines (2021)

In 2021, the world was ending. The cause is currently unknown, but it’s clear that it’s coming soon.

The Mitchells are a family of survivalists who have been preparing for this Day for years. They know that the only way to survive is to move underground and live off the land until the world ends.

However, their preparations haven’t been going as planned. Their food storage has run out, their water supply has dried up, and they’ve been attacked by angry wildlife multiple times. They desperately need someone to help them before it’s too late.

Luckily, a group of strangers arrives on their doorstep asking for asylum. After some convincing, the Mitchells agree to take them in and help them survive the end of the world. Together, they must work to find food, water, and Shelter while trying to stay safe from hostile wildlife and rogue humans alike. https://youtu.be/_ak5dFt8Ar0

6. Deep Impact (1998)

In the aftermath of a devastating asteroid strike, the world’s top scientists are called in to try and save humanity. They devise a plan to send a spacecraft into space to intercept the asteroid and divert it from Earth. If successful, the impact would be so weak that it might not even be noticeable.

The spacecraft is successfully launched, but shortly after takeoff, an unexpected problem arises: the mission commander has been brainwashed and is trying to kill everyone on board! As the crew desperately tries to figure out how to stop him, they’re also faced with the daunting task of keeping their ship alive long enough to reach their target.

Despite some serious plot problems, Deep Impact is still a pretty entertaining movie. The effects are impressive for their time (especially considering how much money was spent on them), and it features some good action scenes. The ending isn’t all that satisfying, but overall it’s an enjoyable watch. https://youtu.be/W80IY4i6u4A

7. Children of Men (2006)

Children of Men is a 2006 British-American film directed by Alfonso Cuaron and written by David S. Goyer, based on the novel of the same name by P.D. James. The film stars Clive Owen, Julianne Moore, and Chiwetel Ejiofor and tells the story of London in 2022 when a global pandemic hacausedse fertility among men and society is collapsing.

The main characters are Theo (Owen), a bureaucrat who is trying to keep his family alive by smuggling them across the border to Spain for refuge; Emma (Moore), his wife who is pregnant; and their young son Keevan (Ejiofor). When Theo’s job becomes too dangerous, he joins a small group of people risking everything to escape London. Along the way, they are joined by others seeking refuge or freedom from the government’s oppressive rule: refugees from Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America. https://youtu.be/2VT2apoX90o

Although it’s not an exact plot point, it is implied that most or all of these people are dying because of the pandemic; indeed, as they approach Spain, many are already dead or diseased. In addition to its harrowing depiction of life during a crisis, Children of Men also makes powerful statements about humanity’s capacity for cruelty and destruction.

8. Take Shelter (2011)

Take Shelter is a 2011 American drama film about a family who must survive the end of the world.

The family decides to take Shelter in their basement when the world begins to fall apart. Unfortunately, the conditions in their basement become increasingly worse, and they soon find themselves fighting for survival against the elements and other dangerous creatures.

The film was critically acclaimed and received several awards, including Best Feature Film at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. https://youtu.be/hUraDx3oFVg

9. Melancholia (2011)

In Melancholia, one of the leading characters is a struggling artist who becomes depressed after witnessing the world’s end. He begins to suffer from hallucinations and believes the world’s end is happening. Despite this, he continues to create art as his only hope for preserving humanity’s memory.

Though Melancholia may not accurately portray what will happen when the end of the world comes, it is still an interesting watch. The film’s dark and pessimistic atmosphere makes it a great choice for fans of horror movies. Additionally, its highly praised acting by lead actress Kirsten Dunst provides an excellent performance. https://youtu.be/6IZGwvxhXvw

10. The Day After (1983)

The Day After is a 1983 American post-apocalyptic science fiction disaster film directed by Peter Hyams and produced by Lawrence Gordon. The screenplay was written by Jay Cocks, based on the novel of the same name by Fred Saberhagen.

In the film, a worldwide nuclear holocaust has caused widespread destruction and caused humanity to retreat into underground shelters. In one small town in Ohio, people are preparing for the world’s end as they know it. However, when an outsider named Jim (played by Dennis Quaid) comes into their lives and starts challenging their assumptions about the future, they question everything they know about what lies ahead.

The Day After was generally well-received by critics, with many praising its atmospheric effects and compelling story. It has since become a cult classic and has been cited as an influential movie in the development of post-apocalyptic cinema.
