DRASS: Indian army said it killed two terrorists at Drass. These terrorists infiltrated via the Gurez sector into Kangan and Wangat Trunkhalon in the Sindh Valley and is the first incident of cross-border infiltration in this quiet part of J&K in six years.
Army conducted this operation between September 27 and October 3 in a part of the Sindh Valley. The region has remained peaceful for years, with the last known counter-terror operation conducted in August 2013.
Pakistan has been trying to ramp up terror activities by pushing terrorists from across the Line Of Control and has terrorized the locals. And they fear for their lives and property from Pakistani terrorists,” an Army official said.
Intelligence sources in army said the appearance of the two terrorists was a worrying sign. The terrorists were sporting crew-cut hair and carrying shoulder-held, rocket-propelled grenade launchers with them. However, this region is using gypsy communities growing walnuts and other herbs.
Local family claims the body of terrorist
Ganderbal and Kargil Police are also trying to ascertain reports of phone calls made to a man in a Gulf country. Earlier a local family claimed the body of one of the militants. “We recovered Wireless VHF sets from the terrorists which shows that they were in touch with their people in Pakistan. A local family has claimed a body of a militant, and this has baffled security agencies.”
“We have sought DNA matching of samples as the bodies are buried. Informants told the army that someone from Saudi Arabia alerted the family. We are curious to know about the identity of this man in Saudi Arabia,” said a top J&K police intelligence official. This official is assisting the army in ascertaining the new LoC infiltration route.
Meanwhile, a high-level intelligence input has revealed details of several men from Srinagar’s Central Jail. These men may be in touch with JeM’s foreign militants operating in south Kashmir, between Anantnag and Sopore. “These men are planning to carry out attacks on the Air Force stations in Srinagar and Awantipora, and Bank Colony in Rawalpora,” it said.
Two days ago, a new contingent of National Security Guards (NSG) commandos rushed to three airports – Jammu, Srinagar, and Leh. The army will fortify the NSG team with a pair of sharpshooters. Additionally, the army will erect forbidding iron gates at these airports outside the entry points.
“The input reveals that JeM has made six teams comprising two-three militants each to carry out attacks on vital installations and security forces,” an official said.
Intelligence sources said officials sighted dreaded militant Riyaz Naikoo in Begpora. Bepora is in Anantnag and police sighted him on September 06. Riyaz is discreetly instigating people to continue with their “resistance” and “not open business establishments in Srinagar and beyond”.
“There are also inputs that Hizbul Mujahideen has made one Dr. Saifullah an operational commander. And he may replace Riyaz Naikoo,” the official added.
