Burnley manager Vincent Kompany expressed his dissatisfaction with the standard of refereeing in the Premier League this season, echoing widespread criticism of officiating following a series of controversial decisions.

Kompany’s team found themselves down to 10 men against Chelsea over the weekend, with the former Belgium defender receiving a red card for protesting against a contentious penalty call.

Despite the setback, Burnley managed to secure a 2-2 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

“The frustration comes from a string of mistakes, and it’s always up for debate,” Kompany stated during a news conference.

“The impact of these decisions affects our points tally and our season, leading to a feeling of heightened frustration.

However, I must remain composed and focused for the next challenge. Hopefully, such incidents won’t recur this season.”

Maintaining transparency, Kompany reiterated his stance on the matter, emphasizing that he has conveyed his concerns to the officials constructively.

He contrasted this season’s officiating unfavorably with the previous year, where he believed English refereeing showcased superior judgment and common sense.

After the Chelsea match, the former Manchester City captain personally extended his apologies to the officials.

Looking ahead, Burnley is set to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday, with Kompany emphasizing the team’s resilience and commitment to capitalizing on any forthcoming opportunities.

“While we advocate for fairness, we understand the importance of seizing even the slightest chance. Our focus remains on the next eight games without allowing them to define our club,” Kompany affirmed.
