Meghan Markle’s Heartfelt Tribute to Afro-Colombian Women

he Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, recently visited Colombia, where they led a forum that celebrated the accomplishments of Afro-Colombian women and leaders. Meghan, a passionate advocate for empowering women and young girls, took the stage alongside her husband, delivering a heartfelt speech that beamed with pride as she discussed her three-year-old daughter Princess Lilibet, who has already found her voice. “Who at three has absolutely found her voice, and we are so proud of that,” Meghan remarked, emphasizing the importance of encouraging children to use their voices.

Meghan drew inspiration from the strong women around her, including her mother, Doria Ragland, and vividly recalled learning Spanish 20 years ago, effortlessly delivering her opening remarks in the language. She praised Colombia’s rich culture and history, expressing her gratitude, stating, “The culture, the history—all of it was a dream—this trip was a dream. I can feel this community and this is the feeling that is the best thing right now.” Meghan also underscored the importance of approaching spaces with love, kindness, and generosity, suggesting that young girls should feel heard and young boys should learn to listen to girls.

Meghan highlighted the crucial role men play in empowering women and encouraging them to use their voices, citing her husband as a shining example. “Ensuring that young girls feel that their voices are heard and young boys are raised to learn how to listen to girls as well. The role of men in this is crucial—and my husband is an example of this,” she said. Prince Harry also participated in the event, urging young people to make a positive impact in their communities and drive change.

Throughout their visit to Colombia, the royal couple demonstrated their affection for the local culture and their commitment to amplifying the achievements of Afro-Colombian women. Meghan’s words perfectly outlined the event’s message, underscoring the importance of amplifying marginalized voices and working together towards a more just society.
