The visit follows an open invitation extended to Modi by President Vladimir Putin in March.

Russian media reported that active preparations were underway for Modi’s visit to Russia.

“I can confirm that we are preparing a visit by the Prime Minister of India,” Kremlin official Yuri Ushakov said, according to RIA Novosti news agency.

If Prime Minister Narendra Modi travels to Russia, he and President Vladimir Putin are set to hold the India-Russia annual summit after a gap of three years.

If Prime Minister Narendra Modi travels to Russia, he and President Vladimir Putin will hold the annual India-Russia summit, the highest institutional dialogue mechanism in their strategic partnership, after a gap of three years.

The last summit took place on December 6, 2021, in New Delhi, when President Putin visited India.

Following Modi’s re-election, President Putin congratulated him and expressed a commitment to strengthen the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.
