The Unbreakable Hero: Why CM Punk Can’t Turn Heel Again in WWE

The Wrestling Observer’s Bill Apter recently analyzed CM Punk’s character, suggesting that Punk may not be able to turn heel again due to the audience’s positive reception of him. Punk recently made an appearance at WWE Clash at the Castle: Scotland, where he interfered in the World Heavyweight Championship match between Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest. Punk’s interference allowed Priest to retain the title, leaving McIntyre furious.

Apter noted that Punk’s actions and the audience’s reaction indicate that Punk may not be able to turn heel again, regardless of what he does in the future. Punk’s character has been embroiled in a rivalry with McIntyre for several months, with both stars taunting each other without hesitation. During the Clash at the Castle event, McIntyre was on the verge of dethroning Priest when Punk, acting as a referee, did not count the pinfall, allowing Priest to recover and retain the championship.

Apter emphasized that Punk’s character will likely not be able to turn heel again, based on the audience’s reaction when Punk left the ring as the referee. Fans embraced Punk and chanted his name despite his interference in the match. Apter stated, “No matter what he does, I don’t think the fans are ever gonna turn against him again. I mean, we are in Drew’s hometown!”

The crowd’s reaction suggests that Punk’s character has evolved to the point where the audience sees him more as a hero or an anti-hero, rather than a traditional heel. Apter believes that Punk’s character has polarized the audience, with fans either loving or hating him, but it seems that the balance has shifted overwhelmingly in favor of the latter.

WWE viewers will have to stay tuned to see how the storyline between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre unfolds. With Punk’s character polarizing the audience, the feud promises to be intriguing and charming. Will Punk continue to play the role of the outsider, using his charisma and wit to manipulate the situation to his advantage, or will McIntyre finally get his revenge? Only time will tell what the future holds for these two characters.
