This week in WWE history, the company held the 2024 Clash at the Castle: Scotland premium live event, with some title changes and the machine moving forward. This article takes a look back at four significant events and moments in WWE history.
The first event is ECW One Night Stand II, which took place on June 11, 2006, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, New York. The event had seven main card matches, with Rob Van Dam and John Cena headlining the show. The main event saw Cena defending his world title against Rob Van Dam, with Van Dam winning the world title for the first time in his career.
The second event is the first-ever King of the Ring pay-per-view on June 13, 1993, at the Nutter Center in Fairborn, Ohio. The tournament had existed for several years before this, but it was never a one-night pay-per-view event prior to 1993. Bret Hart won the tournament, defeating Razor Ramon, Mr. Perfect, and Bam Bam Bigelow.
The third event is Bad Blood on June 13, 2004, at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The show was notable for a few reasons, but mostly for the main event. Triple H and Shawn Michaels battled it out in a Hell in a Cell Match for nearly 48 minutes.
The fourth event is Backlash on June 14, 2020, at the Performance Center in front of zero fans due to the ongoing COVID-19-related lockdowns. The main event of WWE Backlash 2020 saw Randy Orton go one-on-one with Edge, who had just returned to wrestling months prior. They shockingly competed for almost 45 minutes, which is extremely rare.
These events and moments in WWE history show the evolution of the company and the wrestling business. From the King of the Ring tournament’s inception to the Hell in a Cell match’s brutal intensity, WWE has provided fans with unforgettable moments that will last a lifetime.
