Cody Rhodes, the current Undisputed WWE Champion, has several challengers lined up for the title as summer approaches. However, one name that won’t be challenging Rhodes anytime soon is Gunther, who recently revealed that he has no plans to cross paths with the American Nightmare.
In an appearance on Keith Whitter’s Witty Whitter, Gunther clarified his intentions and stated that his primary focus is solely on adding prestige and glory to the World Heavyweight Championship after winning it at SummerSlam. He said, “Obviously, that’s my top priority, and the goal is going to be to do the same with the Intercontinental Championship, to win it, hold on to it as long as possible, and add as much prestige and glory to it as possible” (Gunther, 06:37-07:09).
Gunther’s statement comes after WrestleMania XL, an event that marked a significant turning point for both Rhodes and Gunther, changing the trajectory of their careers. Although the two stars are currently at the top of their game on different brands, it’s clear that Gunther has no plans to challenge Rhodes anytime soon.
Meanwhile, Rhodes is set to defend his title at WWE Clash at The Castle 2024. After becoming the face of WWE and Friday Night SmackDown following WrestleMania XL, Rhodes has appeared in various events with the title, even when the previous champion was often absent. He successfully defended the title against AJ Styles at WWE Backlash France but will face him again in an I Quit match at the WWE Clash at the Castle Scotland PLE.
Gunther’s focus on the World Heavyweight Championship means that fans won’t be seeing a match between him and Rhodes anytime soon. Both stars are currently on separate brands following the Draft, and it remains to be seen who will leave Glasgow with the title. Nevertheless, fans can look forward to an exciting I Quit match between Rhodes and Styles at the upcoming PLE.
