Drew McIntyre, the Scottish Warrior, has become one of the most charming wrestlers in recent years, recognized for his relentless pursuit of winning the World Title in front of a live audience. However, a decade ago, the situation was vastly different. McIntyre took to his social media account to reflect on the time he was initially released from WWE.

Now, McIntyre is set to challenge Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship. This match marks Priest’s second title defense on WWE TV since winning the championship from Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania XL. McIntyre has found himself in the main event picture more often than not. However, ten years ago, he wasn’t seen as one of the top talents in the promotion.

McIntyre shared a note on his social media account, reminiscing about the time when he was released from WWE ten years ago. He wrote, “June 12, 2014: Brodus Clay, Evan Bourne, Teddy Long, Curt Hawkins and other WWE Superstars released. I didn’t even make the headline. 10 years later I am the headline.”

Drew McIntyre won his first WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36 by defeating Brock Lesnar. He had eliminated Lesnar during the Royal Rumble match and decided to challenge Lesnar for the title. However, his first reign as the WWE Champion was short-lived. The event took place at the Performance Center without fans due to COVID-19. Since then, McIntyre has won the World Heavyweight Championship in front of a packed stadium at WrestleMania XL, though his reign lasted less than six minutes. Damian Priest cashed in his MITB contract, taking advantage of an assault by CM Punk on McIntyre, to clinch the title away from him.
