Homelander vs. Superman: Antony Starr Weighs In on the Ultimate Superpowered Showdown

In superpowered beings, debates often arise about who would win in a battle between iconic characters. Recently, “The Boys” star Antony Starr chimed in on this popular topic, expressing his belief that his character, Homelander, would defeat Superman in a fight to the death. This statement comes in response to his co-star Jack Quaid, who recently suggested that the Man of Steel would be the victor.

Antony Starr, known for his portrayal of the ruthless Homelander in “The Boys,” provided his reasoning during an interview with Screen Rant. Starr confidently stated that Homelander “would kick Superman’s ass,” citing Homelander’s lack of moral restraint and his willingness to fight dirty as key advantages.

“Oh, really? Is that what he thinks? Here’s why Homelander would kick Superman’s ass. There’s no Kryptonite factor, and Homie would fight so dirty. He’s the [type to go], ‘Oh, you got me!’ as he goes down and then comes up and throws sand in your eyes. He’s a dirty dude, man. Whereas Superman is always like, ‘Oh, I wouldn’t do that. Oh, there’s innocent children that might get hurt.’ Homie’s going to human shield himself with the kids.”

Starr’s depiction of a brutal, cunning Homelander paints a stark contrast to Superman’s more principled and restrained approach to combat.

Jack Quaid, who plays Hughie Campbell in “The Boys” and voices Superman in the animated series “My Adventures with Superman,” had a different take on the hypothetical battle. Quaid argued that Superman’s inherent goodness and eventual mastery of his powers would ensure his victory over Homelander. “He has to, right? Like if he doesn’t, we’re all in trouble. I think my particular version of Superman has a lot of growing to do, and he still needs to discover some more of the powers that we all know are in there but give him a few seasons, and he can take Homelander, for sure.”

While this debate fuels fans’ imaginations, both “The Boys” and Superman franchises have plenty of exciting content in the pipeline. “The Boys,” based on the comic series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, has been renewed for a fifth season, with the fourth season set to premiere on June 13, 2024. The series, starring Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Laz Alonso, Tomer Capone, and Karen Fukuhara as the main vigilantes, alongside Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Chace Crawford, Jessie T. Usher, and Nathan Mitchell as the primary superheroes, has been a massive hit on Prime Video. Its success has even spawned a spinoff series, “Gen V,” which has also been renewed for a second season.

On the Superman front, David Corenswet is set to don the iconic cape in the upcoming DCU film directed by James Gunn. The new Superman movie will feature a star-studded cast including Rachel Brosnahan, Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Anthony Carrigan, María Gabriela de Faría, Sara Sampaio, Skyler Gisondo, and Nicholas Hoult, and is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025.

While the debate over whether Homelander or Superman would win in a fight remains unresolved, fans of both franchises can look forward to an exciting array of new content. The contrasting philosophies and fighting styles of these characters will continue to charm audiences, keeping the hypothetical battle alive in the imaginations of fans worldwide.
