Fans of “Vinland Saga” have been eagerly anticipating news of a third season since the second season concluded nearly a year ago. Based on Makoto Yukimura’s manga, the anime has charmed audiences with its epic Viking-era tale of a young boy seeking revenge for his father’s death. Despite the lack of official confirmation, there are promising signs that the series will continue.

The end of Season 2 left viewers hungry for more, and while no official greenlight has been given for Season 3, some hints suggest that the journey isn’t over yet. One such hint came from Takahiko Abiru, the character designer for “Vinland Saga,” who tweeted shortly after the end of Season 2: “My gratitude goes to you as all staff members were able to continue making this work without giving up until today. I’d like to extend my appreciation to the fans all around the world that love ‘Vinland Saga.’ Thank you so much! …Thorfinn’s journey will continue.”

Given the ample source material still available, it makes sense for “Vinland Saga” to return. The first two seasons covered the initial 100 chapters of the manga, concluding with the start of the Eastern Expedition Arc. With the manga ongoing and currently at 164 chapters, there is plenty of story left to adapt.

However, the wait for a new season might be lengthy. MAPPA, the studio behind “Vinland Saga,” is currently juggling multiple projects, including “Zenshu,” “Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3,” and “Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill Season 2.” With their schedule packed, fans might not see “Vinland Saga” Season 3 until at least 2026.

As for what to expect in the next season, those familiar with the manga can anticipate exciting developments. While Season 1 focused on Thorfinn’s quest for vengeance and Season 2 depicted his time as a slave on Ketil’s farm, Season 3 is likely to explore the Eastern Expedition Arc. In this arc, Thorfinn, alongside his new friend Einar, ventures beyond Vinland to Greece. Their journey promises new allies, formidable foes, and numerous secrets to uncover as they navigate unfamiliar territories.

While “Vinland Saga” fans may need to exercise patience, the signs are hopeful for a continuation of Thorfinn’s story. The potential for further exploration of the rich narrative and characters remains high, promising an exciting future for the series. Fans can take solace in the possibility that, despite delays, Thorfinn’s journey is far from over.
