Catarina Macario expressed immense gratitude for her return to action with the United States women’s national team (USWNT) in their recent 2-1 victory against Japan.
Macario made a significant comeback by coming off the bench during the SheBelieves Cup match, marking her first appearance after an absence of 641 days due to a torn ACL.
During her recovery period, she also underwent a transition from Lyon to Chelsea, making her return to the national team setup even more remarkable, especially with the Olympics approaching.
Reflecting on her journey, Macario revealed the emotional toll of missing the 2023 World Cup, describing it as “devastating” as she witnessed her team’s elimination in the round of 16 against Sweden.
Despite the setbacks, Macario’s talent remains evident, with her recent performances for Chelsea demonstrating her prowess on the field.
Taking to Instagram, Macario shared a snapshot of herself donning the USWNT jersey along with the caption “Beyond grateful,” encapsulating her sentiments about her return to international football.
Looking ahead, Macario aims to continue her impact on the pitch as the USWNT faces Canada in the SheBelieves Cup final.
Following the tournament, she will shift her focus back to Chelsea, preparing for their upcoming women’s FA Cup semi-final encounter against Manchester United on April 14.
