Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has provided insight into the decision to omit Marcus Rashford from the starting lineup for the clash against Chelsea.

In a strategic move, the Dutchman opted to replace Rashford with Antony in the starting XI at Stamford Bridge, with Rashford taking a place on the bench instead.

Ten Hag elaborated on the rationale behind this decision, emphasizing the importance of keeping the 26-year-old forward fresh for the upcoming busy period.

During this time, United is aiming to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League, potentially edging out Tottenham.

“I decided for Marcus Rashford on the bench for rotation to keep him and the team fresh through a busy period with another big game on Sunday,” explained Ten Hag during his media address.

Looking ahead, Rashford, a native of Manchester, will aim to reclaim his spot in the starting lineup when United faces Premier League title contenders Liverpool at Old Trafford in their next game on Sunday.
