Fenerbahce’s chairman addressed a large gathering of congress members at their Istanbul stadium on Tuesday, revealing that the club has decided against following through with their threat of pulling out of the Turkish Super Lig.

“In all our discussions, withdrawing from the league was the least favorable option. The prevailing sentiment is that such a move would merely transfer the existing challenges we face here to a lower league,” explained club chairman Ali Koc to the congress.

“We have therefore removed this option from consideration until the general assembly at the season’s end,” Koc further stated.

The decision comes after Fenerbahce had previously indicated in March that they were contemplating exiting the league following an incident where their players were assaulted by Trabzonspor fans during a match.

Trabzonspor supporters invaded the pitch and clashed with security personnel and Fenerbahce players after their team suffered a 3-2 defeat, adding to a series of troubling incidents that have marred the Turkish league this season.

Currently occupying the second spot in the standings after 30 games, just two points adrift of Galatasaray, Fenerbahce is slated to host Adana Demirspor on Wednesday.
