Manchester United’s Mason Mount candidly admitted that his team didn’t merit a victory in their match against Brentford last Saturday.
Mount netted his inaugural goal in a United jersey during Saturday’s game, giving his team a 1-0 lead in the 96th minute, only for Brentford to equalize just three minutes later.
Despite Mount’s goal, United’s performance was lackluster, managing only 11 shots compared to Brentford’s 31.
Mount, the scorer, acknowledged the team’s subpar display and conceded that they didn’t deserve to secure all three points. Despite the setback, he expressed optimism about a potential turnaround in form.
Reflecting on the match in an interview with Sky Sports, Mount remarked, “When you go 1-0 up right at the end, you want to try and hang onto that.
If you look at the game, it wasn’t up to our standard. We know that. When you score at the death, you think you can maybe hang on. But maybe we didn’t deserve it.
“Brentford make it difficult. It is never easy coming here. They make it tough and get around you. Maybe we didn’t get it going from the beginning.
We know we can improve, and we need to because we need to win games. We will improve, we will work hard. These are the games you want to win. We need to step up, and that is what we will focus on.”
Mount, who made his first Premier League appearance since November on Saturday, will feature in United’s upcoming crucial league fixture against Chelsea on Thursday.
