Sporting Lisbon has reportedly set a hefty £68.5 million ($84.5m) price tag on the head of Viktor Gyokeres, a target for both Arsenal and Chelsea.
Since his move from Coventry City to the Portuguese club last summer, Gyokeres has been in scintillating form, scoring 36 goals and providing 14 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.
This impressive record has attracted interest from the aforementioned Premier League giants as well as AC Milan. According to the Mirror, Sporting is now valuing him at $86.4m (€80m) ahead of the summer transfer window.
Former Brighton player Gyokeres, whose contract with Sporting runs until 2028, recently addressed the speculation surrounding his future, stating, “It’s a sign that I’ve performed well. But it’s not something I take too seriously, since it’s just speculation.
But of course, it’s fun. We’ll see this summer. It’s not something I know about myself, what will happen. I enjoy Sporting extremely well and feel no stress about the summer coming quickly.”
Gyokeres began his career with Swedish side Brommapojkarna before joining Brighton in the 2017/18 season.
Following limited appearances for Brighton, he moved permanently to Coventry in 2021 after loan spells at St Pauli and Swansea City.
His impressive performances in the Championship caught Sporting’s attention, leading to his acquisition, and he has continued his goal-scoring form since then.
Sporting Lisbon, led by Gyokeres, will face Benfica in the second leg of their Taca de Portugal semi-final on Tuesday evening. Sporting holds a 2-1 advantage from the first leg against their arch-rivals.
