In September 2023, Afa Anoa’i Jr., cousin of Roman Reigns, was hospitalized for a complex heart issue. Currently running Battlefield Pro Wrestling in Pennsylvania, he previously appeared as Manu on WWE TV in 2008-2009. In an interview with Wrestling’s Bill Apter, Afa Anoa’i Jr. confirmed his intention to resume wrestling. Despite being cleared for in-ring action, he’s proceeding cautiously, gradually easing back into training and workouts.
“I’ve been cleared to return to in-ring activities. I’m taking it a little slow, though. I’m not going right into it like I should, so I’m kinda taking it a day at a time. I’m getting in the ring. I’m starting to train and work out more and more, but I’m looking forward to resuming my career,” he shared. Afa Anoa’i Jr. has been diligently following medical advice over the past six months after experiencing a blood clot. Despite facing AFib and congestive heart failure simultaneously, he has shown significant improvement and is eager to make a comeback.
“I had a blood clot in my heart,” Afa Anoa’i Jr. revealed. “I also have AFib [atrial fibrillation] with my heartbeat and I also had congestive heart failure. I had all three at once, so it was very scary. My body was retaining a lot of water. It was a hard time, but I’m back and I’m able to move around and get around and not be so blown up anymore.” In the same discussion, he shared his views on a potential match between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL.
