Yunus Musah has shared how staying occupied with his USMNT teammates is helping him with fasting during Ramadan.
Musah spoke at a press conference while on international duty this month, addressing the challenges of fasting and how it differs in a national team environment compared to his club setup.
He emphasized that being constantly surrounded by his teammates helps keep him occupied.
Musah stated: “Of course it’s different because, normally, I’m going to training and then going home.
It’s kind of different here because I’m not going home. I’m always in the hotel with the boys and everything, so it’s nice actually that I’m here because the boys, after training, keep me busy.
I get to be with them and then time flies and, eventually, it’s time to eat, so that’s what’s up.”
Musah is not alone in fasting during Ramadan; high-profile players like Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Antonio Rudiger also observe Islam’s holy month.
However, fasting can pose nutritional challenges for players, as it involves not eating or drinking between dawn and dusk, aiming to demonstrate patience and encourage spiritual reflection.
Musah is with the USMNT for the latter stages of the CONCACAF Nations League.
They face a semi-final against Jamaica on March 21, aiming to progress to the final against either Panama or Mexico, with the hope of retaining the trophy they have won in every previous edition of the competition.
