Annabel Giles, a renowned TV presenter and actress, has sadly passed away at the age of 64 after a four-month battle with a stage 4 Glioblastoma, a highly aggressive and malignant brain tumour. Her children, Molly and Tedd, took to Instagram to share the devastating news, describing their mother as “incredible, one of a kind, and a mystery to those privileged to share her life”. Giles was diagnosed with the tumour in July and underwent brain surgery and radiotherapies, yet she maintained her signature wit and humour until the end.
Giles was best known for co-presenting ITV’s Posh Frocks And New Trousers with Sarah Greene, as well as appearing on numerous panel and reality shows throughout her career. She was a versatile performer who also acted in films, including the 1993 movie Riders, and television shows, such as Our Shirley Valentine Summer and Rehab The Musical in 2022. Additionally, she was an agony aunt on BBC Radio Wales earlier this year.
Friends and famous faces paid homage to Giles, describing her as “so funny, clever, and gorgeous” and “beautiful, funny, and clever”. Comedians Jenny Eclair and Lee Hurst shared fond memories of working with her, while actor Michael Smiley praised her as the “epitome of classy kindness”. Despite her passing, Giles’s memory will live on through the joy and laughter she brought to those around her.
Born in Pontypool, Wales, Giles began her career as a model in her 20s. She was married to Ultravox singer Midge Ure, with whom she shared daughter Molly, and later had a second child, son Tedd. Her family has requested that instead of flowers or gifts, donations be made to Martlets Hospice, where she received exceptional care throughout her journey.
