A young moose wandered into the lobby of the Providence Alaska Health Park building in Anchorage, spotting some green plants and deciding to stop by for a snack. The moose triggered the automatic doors’ sensors, and hospital staff received a call from one of their tenants reporting the unusual visitor. Director of Security Randy Hughes believes it’s the same moose that has been frequenting the campus, and while moose are common in Alaska, the hospital made an announcement over the intercom out of safety concerns.
The moose’s presence caused quite a commotion, with people excited to take pictures and gaze at the unusual sight. However, the moose was too busy munching on the office plants to notice the fuss it was causing. Security officers formed a semicircle to corral the moose and move it out through the door, one even trying to lure it out with a piece of the plant.
Eventually, the moose had enough of the attention and left the building, but not before taking a leisurely stroll around the parking lot before settling down to rest for the afternoon. This wasn’t the first time a moose had wandered into one of the hospital complex’s buildings, and bears have also attempted to gain entry to the emergency room in the past. According to Hughes, there’s “never a dull moment” at the hospital.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of being prepared for unexpected visitors, especially in areas with wildlife like Alaska. The hospital staff’s calm and professional response to the situation likely helped to ensure everyone’s safety, and the moose’s sudden departure might have been a relief to all parties involved.
